Through hooded eyes this hollow heart lets out long, yearning sighs
in wounded flesh, skeleton white, stretched over aching bones
i work through the mishaps, all the lies, to gain true sight of my demise
i'll pay in full for the borrowed hearts, pay interest in flesh for all the loans.

The Winter Trees
by ronkeytonk

The bare foundations, upon which spring leaves grow
(cast iron frames, stretching to the sky)
look dreary under their blankets of snow,
looming over, the weary, passers-by
Yet beautiful, in their gnarled, morbid way
empathy. Symbols of cold and lonely hearts
a bittersweet loneliness, day, after dark day
but ever ready to brighten, when winter departs.
